Frequently asked questions about newborn shoots

There is a wealth of information out there on the art of photographing sweet little newborn babies. There are so many photographers out there now. Here’s what I do to help guide families that book in with me for these special photoshoots.

Usually baby is under 14 days of age when you come to me, when your newborn has lost their cord and the plastic clamp and has a super cute little belly button. Sometimes for religious reasons or dependant on the pose baby can be photographed before this. Although it’s always good if they’re in an established feeding routine, whether it’s bottle or breast I don’t care. We just want a relaxed and calm shoot, if baby is unsettled all the time at home as they are still hungry then they’re going to do that in the studio. We use white noise, warmth, and lots of time for feeds and cuddles, for your newborn shoot. I try to get all babies wind up after feeds as that can be when they’re unsettled when you lay your baby flat. So we encourage you to bring infacol or a dummy if you’re using those items. Whilst the odd little cry is sweet, you don’t want all the photos to be an unhappy baby!

All families are offered drinks throughout the session, we have a dedicated client toilet just outside the studio door. And you are welcome to bring snacks/lunch with you. I only do a few newborn sessions per month, I am really fantastic at settling and safely posing your new precious little baby, I love offering a bespoke photoshoot to each client, where you feel calm and welcome into my lovely home studio. I hope it feels home from home for you, but with a very professional service, and so I devote my time to editing your images, not having to rush them to ensure they’re perfect. This is what you can expect from a newborn session with me. Siblings, family shots and fur babies are welcome too. 

Before your shoot, we discuss what you like, you can choose your images from my vast and varied portfolio of all the sweet babies, whether you want highly styled images like a fairy or Harry Potter newborn shoot, through to just simple sweet sleepy images in gorgeous tones with tons of texture, black and white perfected hand edited images dodged and burned to perfection. Or our new simple white backlit wall and our cheaper on white session. Every shoot is treated with the same professionalism and warm welcome. You are sent a guide to how your newborn session will work with recommendations for what to wear, what not to eat if you’re breastfeeding, and all the little details to get the very best from your shoot so when you arrive, you’ll know what to expect and can relax knowing I’m going to explain things as we go along and you can sit and savour the wonderful experience and just how scrummy and perfect your sweet baby is.

After the session you receive a gallery usually on the same day with at least one image in it. It’s password protected, we never ever share images unless we have permission to. And we update throughout the process and let you know when your gallery is complete. You choose your favourites from this gallery and usually you have your images when your payment is made on the same day by digital download. We are always refining our editing, posing and safety skills and the service we offer you so you know you are at the heart of our photography business.

Boxford Suffolk – newborn photography

Beautiful little Miss P and her doggy sister came to me just before Christmas. Even though she was an older baby we still managed to get all those newborn poses, and safely photographed the pictures of her with her doggy sister as a composite so it’s safe for the baby, and also doesn’t cause stress to the fur baby of the family. These images are just so precious and I couldn’t share before Christmas as the Christmas photo was a surprise for Daddy but I just love how sweet and precious this photo is.
